Giax announces new products for its 10G Ethernet over Coax solution, HelEOS.

Reducing time to market for DAA (Distributed Access Architectures), helping Cable Operators offer Gigabit speeds and reduce total cost of ownership.

Giax, a German Technology Startup bringing Innovation to Coaxial Networks, is proudly introducing two new additions to its product portfolio; the ES1440-BK and the HelEOS Switch Node. The ES1440-BK is a versatile, feature rich 4 port 10G and 4 port 2.5G Ethernet Switch. The HelEOS Switch Node is a HelEOS Gateway with an integrated ES1440-BK Switch. The Switch Node provides cable operators with the capability to deploy the Giax HelEOS solution as a Virtual Node Split solution. Both products are now available for the BK network architecture.

Prior to the introduction of the Switch Node, Cable operators could use the HelEOS solution for a single service only, typically Distributed Access Architectures (DAA), mobile backhaul, Fiber to the Business or Distributed PON. By using the Switch Node cable operators can now use the HelEOS solution for multiple services at once, significantly increasing the versatility of the HelEOS solution and bringing Node as a Platform capabilities to the BK architecture.

One of the prime use cases for the HelEOS solution will continue to be DAA, why? The introduction of DAA in the cable market is promising to help reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) of Cable Access networks and to create a network architecture that is setting the stage for innovations such as virtualization and automation.

When cable operators adopt DAA they often (need to) combine this with network re-segmentation. All of a sudden deploying DAA has become a CAPEX intensive operation with the need to extend the fiber networks. The cost incurred is especially high in underground networks. Let alone the time needed before the digging can start (permits and crew availability).

At Giax we have developed the HelEOS solution to help Cable operators execute on the promise of DAA and get their network ready for FDX without the massive investments in extending the Fiber network. How? By re-energizing the existing Coax network, using it as a 10G Ethernet distribution network for DAA, preventing time and money spend digging fiber to re-segment service groups, providing a virtual node split solution that allows you to push the DAA remote device deeper into the network without the associated cost of digging fiber.

The specific use case for the latest additions to the Giax product portfolio, the Switch Node and the ES-1440-BK Ethernet Switch, is the ability to use the HelEOS solution for DAA deployment in architectures that have multiple amplifier cascades and branches in a segment. It morphs the HelEOS solution from a point to point in a point to multipoint architecture enabling Virtual Node Splits.

“Deploying fiber for re-segmentation purposes can be a serious CAPEX burden as this is often associated with digging into the ground, which tends to be labor intensive.”, said Jörg Hellwig, CEO and founder of GiaX. “At GiaX we have developed an innovative solution, HelEOS, that allows cable operators to re-use the existing Coax network, re-energizing that network to offer standard based 10G Ethernet backhaul capabilities for deployment of DAA architectures, whilst having the flexibility to adapt to new requirements in the future such as FDX. The HelEOS Switch Node is the latest addition to the HelEOS solution, making HelEOS ready for use in cable networks all over the world”
